「 businesses 」
| The following are mod- and player-run businesses that have been established in Yoshiwara. Players are free to make normal use of the listed businesses as much or as little as they like. If you'd like your character to do more than patronize a store (e.g: apply for a job, pick a fight with other customers, vandalize the store front) then please contact the appropriate party for approval. All businesses marked with * have semi-open employment; you may assume your character works at the marked businesses so long as their faction and job description match. (e.g.: a north faction bartender could work at Club IBIS, but not at Shichifukujin.) 「 Directory 」 Club IBIS (North) * Crossroads (North) * Hotaru (North) * Lazy (South) * Oicho-Kabu (East) Sakura House (North) Shichifukujin (South) Unnamed Bathhouse (City Center) Utazuru (West) * Yoshiwara Playhouse (West) * 「 New Businesses 」 If you would like your character to start their own business, of if you'd like to propose an NPC-run business, please contact the mods first. Once you have approval, please fill out the following form in this comment and post it as a reply to the appropriate location header. |

Summary: A short, one paragraph description of the business, the atmosphere, and the services it offers.
CITY CENTER
UNNAMED BUSINESS
Business Type: Bath house
Contact: Mod team (
Summary: A quiet public bathhouse in the city center, divided by gender. It's famous not only for the superior service, but also for being one of the few places in Yoshiwara where sex is strictly prohibited.
NORTH
CROSSROADS
Business Type: Host Club
Contact: Mod team (
Summary: A mid-scale host club with a twist: not only are both men and women hired, but every single member of the staff cross-dresses while on the clock.
HOTARU
Business Type: Love Hotel
Contact: Mod Team (
Summary: The largest and most popular love hotel in Yoshiwara, Hotaru (Firefly) is six stories tall and boasts sixty different rooms. They have a handful of rooms that are just barely one step above motel rooms, but most of their accommodations are more comfortable; a few rooms on the topmost floor can even rival luxury hotel rooms in terms. Regardless of quality, all the rooms are very clean. Condoms, lubrication, toys, and toiletries can be purchased from vending machines in the lobby, and the front desk attendant sits behind tinted glass to better provide the guests with privacy.
Club IBIS
Business Type: Host Club
Contact: Roxas (
Summary: A two-tiered host club that prides itself on featuring settings and price points for those who prefer the luxe experience with Ibis's "Princes" or those who prefer to walk on the wild side. The upper level is a glamorous lounge of gold fixtures, white leather couches and crystal chandeliers. It is the more expensive of the two and only hires men who portray themselves in the Prince style. The lower level is more like a night club with a dressed-up dystopian theme, is more moderate in pricing, and its hosts dress in Bad Boy style. Sometimes the club offers a whole-club event where the lower level becomes a dance club featuring local DJs and the top level is a lounge setting, offering bottle service and champagne tower specials to its most loyal customers. Services tend to involve a party atmosphere and the boyfriend experience. Rumor has it some of the hosts have had their modeling careers launched through their work here.
SAKURA HOUSE (non-business location)
But once someone sets foot on the stone path that leads up to the front door, it starts to become obvious why this is home is considered the most haunted building in Yoshiwara. The yard is unnaturally quiet compared to the street right next to it, though the logical may dismiss that as the sounds of the city being muffled by the sakura tree's low-hanging branches. What's more difficult to dismiss is the feeling of being watched. The feeling is persistent and lingering, but vanishes the moment someone tries to locate the source. It only returns several minutes after someone's attention has drifted away from the task of trying to locate it.
The boards covering the windows and other entrances are surprisingly stubborn, so the only way into the house is through the (conveniently unlocked) front door. The interior is dark, dusty, and creepy, but also largely unremarkable. The first floor consists of a single hallway that takes a few 90 degree turns before it dead-ends at the back door. There are exactly five other doors in the hallway, none of which can be opened no matter how much they are tugged, pushed, pried, or otherwise attempted to be forced open. The only means to proceed is a staircase that leads upstairs.
The second floor is similar to the first: nothing more than a short hallway with several doors that are impossible to open. Once again, the only way to proceed is up, but this time it's through a small hatch that leads into the attic. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how scared of ghosts the visitors may be) the attic is dusty, empty, and nearly as unremarkable as the other floors. However, here are two features that may stand out.
First, no matter the season, the attic is notably colder than the rest of the house. And second, a large outline of a cherry blossom flower has been drawn on the wooden floors in pink chalk. Though innocuous at first glance, stepping over the lines will intensify the feeling of being watched, and attempting to smudge or erase the lines will cause a sensation of dread and terror intense enough to send even the most seasoned of ghost hunters scurrying for the front door.
Ultimately, the Sakura House makes for a spooky but typically uneventful venture, though there are countless rumors surrounding it. Perhaps those will be worth looking into if one wants to dig into the house's mysteries...
EAST
OICHO-KABU
Business Type: Tattoo Parlor
Contact: Mod team (
Summary: A hole-in-the-wall tattoo shop that doesn't seem to get much business. The apprentice and journeyman artists are easy to get an appointment with, but the master never seems to be available.
AKIYOSHI
Business Type: Ryokan
Contact: Mod Team (
Summary: A ryokan famed for it's artificial onsen, which easily passes for the real deal. The property is rather small, with 15 guest rooms, only 5 of which have private onsen, and a public onsen large enough for 20 people. Akiyoshi actually receives very few overnight guests and does most of their business via onsen admission and renting out rooms for small parties. Despite being located in the east district the onsen has a strict 'no tattoos' policy, which prevents quite a few Higashi members from visiting. There's an unspoken trick to the onsen, however; after midnight the rules are much more relaxed, and employees will look the other way when it comes to tattoos and rowdy guests.
No matter time of day it is, though, there's a strict ban on sexual contact in the onsen, and the staff won't hesitate to kick out any violators they catch.
SOUTH
SHICHIFUKUJIN
Business Type: Casino
Contact: Mod team (
Summary: The largest casino (and arguably the only proper one) in Yoshiwara. Mahjong is the most popular game by far but one can also find poker, blackjack, craps, the roulette wheel, and other such games within the casino walls. Shichifukujin has an attached hotel with 60 rooms.
LAZY
Business Type: Cafe
Contact: Mod Team (
Summary: If the name doesn't give it away, this cafe specializes in letting guests just relax. A kotatsu is the only type of table available (complete with blankets in the winter) and each one is partitioned off with sound-dampening curtains. Most days half the cafe is reserved for normal guests, while the other half is for couples that are looking for some privacy but don't have the money for a proper love hotel excursion - or that just love the thrill that comes with a little exhibitionism. Every few weeks Lazy will limit the cafe to just one type of guest or the other. The cafe specializes in chocolate-based drinks and snacks but still offers the usual array of tea, coffee, and pasties, and servers are always on hand to make sure no one has to leave their cozy spot.
WEST
YOSHIWARA PLAYHOUSE
Business Type: Theater
Contact: Mod team (
Summary: A modestly sized 200-seat theater that shows everything from traditional kabuki plays to postmodern musicals to artsy burlesques. Though it doesn't sell out every night, it's rare for its seats to be less than three quarters full.
UTAZURU
Business Type: Live House
Contact: Goshi Kaneshiro (
Summary: Utazuru is located in the heart of Yoshiwara's west district. What was once an infamous izakaya is now a revamped space that blends the highs and lows of local performers putting on a show. It's got a clean and modern aesthetic, locally-manufactured LED neon lighting included, and it boasts probably one of the better sound systems within the city. There's a bar on the side if you want to get drinks (they have non-alcoholic beverages too!), but everyone who comes to this place is here for the music and the dance floor. There's also an area dedicated solely for more private/smaller shows, sequestered away from the main venue. Beyond its everyday functions, Utazuru gained popularity in part thanks to its rental services - its performers are often loaned out to various public events to liven up the party.
OTHER
PEDESTRIAN TUNNELS (non-business location)
The publicly available entrances can still be found, but all of them have been sealed. However, two entrances on private property in the north district - one in the crawl space underneath a teahouse, and the other in the employees only area of a hotel - have recently been rediscovered. Learning their exact location is tricky and accessing them is trickier, and anyone caught attempting to do so will be thrown out of the businesses in question and given an immediate, lifelong ban. The stealthy and those versed in causing distractions will find sneaking in to not be very difficult, while others may wish to simply bribe employees into looking the other way.
The tunnels themselves are in an inconsistent state. Some parts have only dirt walls and floors and are on the verge of collapsing; while others show signs of having once been well-maintained, with wood-paneled floors, walls, and ceilings, non-functioning electric lights, and faded signs at intersections indicating which direction each tunnel leads. The tunnels are a maze-like and twisting, but thanks to several collapsed or sealed off paths limiting what can be accessed, it's difficult to actually get lost - so long as any visitors remember to bring a flashlight.
Unlike the subway there's no sign that anyone has been living down there. That's likely because it's pretty spooky. There are no violent spirits or horrifying specters to stumble across, but there are plenty of distant whispers, disembodied footsteps, and unexplained instances of electrical interference. It's not exactly a pleasant place to be, but at least one's privacy is all but guaranteed down there.
