「 factions and jobs 」

All current player jobs and faction affiliations can be found here.

STARTING FACTIONS
「 Kita - North Faction 」
Leader: Bishamon (inactive) / Makoto (de facto)
Jobs: Prostitutes, courtesans, escorts, dom/mes, strippers, hosts and hostesses, tea masters, spies

The north faction runs and oversees most of the brothels in Yoshiwara (as well as all of the best ones). Unsurprisingly, the majority of the faction is comprised of prostitutes, hosts and hostesses, strippers, and other sex workers. While the weakest faction on the surface, they're the largest faction in town. Not only that, they also run and maintain the largest spy network in Yoshiwara, and possibly within all of Tokyo itself. They have dirt on everyone, and all that information is for sale. And many of the faction members themselves are either current for sale or were at one point, themselves. The north faction 'employs' more indentured servants than all the others combined, and it's not unheard of for these servants to be sold off or permanently gifted to well-paying customers.

「 Higashi - East Faction 」
Leader: Jikoku
Jobs: Assassins, enforcers, hired muscle, tattoo artists, drug manufacturers, drug dealers, bodyguards

The east faction serves as Yoshiwara's branch of the yakuza. Jikoku and her men handle the especially shady jobs in Yoshiwara - drug dealing, assassinations, and general enforcement against troublemakers. Though the yakuza are scariest and most dangerous group in town by far, the isolated nature of Yoshiwara means they lack the political power typically expected of organized crime syndicates. Still, actively picking a fight with them is a bad idea. They offer protection from both the government and other residents of Yoshiwara in exchange for money and favors, which means that there are very few places in town they don't have access to.

「 Minami - South Faction 」
Leader: Zouchou
Jobs: Card dealers, professional gamblers, debt collectors, bookies, accountants, bank tellers, doctors and other medical staff, engineers, programmers

Control over the city's largest casino. Shady connections to its only bank. The financial backing they provide to many of Yoshiwara's businesses. All of these factors means that the south faction is able to ensure that nearly all the cash that flows into, out of, or through Yoshiwara passes through their hands at some point. Furthermore, the south faction's talent for creative bookkeeping and clever accounting tricks means the other factions have good reason to maintain a friendly relationship with them. And if that weren't enough the south faction also has heavy influence over, if not always direct control of, many of Yoshiwara's essential services - water, electricity, medical services, the town newspaper, and assorted communication networks. In a gaudy, lascivious town the south faction is a haven for those who excel at more mundane careers.

「 Nishi - West Faction 」
Leader: Koumoku
Jobs: Actors, singers, dancers, directors, scriptwriters, screenwriters, tailors, set designers, graphic designers, ushers, sound and light technicians, photographers, videographers

The second largest and least organized faction in town, but in many ways the most influential. The west faction is the only one with a somewhat favorable reputation outside of Yoshiwara, mostly thanks to Koumoku's diligent efforts to recruit and nurture talent within the city. The west faction doesn't need money, sex, or physical strength to flex their power; they more than get by with guile and charm... and by having the most influence with politicians from outside Yoshiwara

OTHER FACTIONS
「 Yoshiwara Police Department 」
Leader: Katsuki
Jobs: Police officers, detectives, riot control officers, forensic scientists, dispatchers

The Yoshiwara Police Department has a rough time doing their job. The common folk distrust them, the main four factions undermine their peacekeeping efforts, and the department has turned into something of a dumping ground for officers that are inept, corrupt, or both... but a fair few of them are good, honest people that pissed off the wrong superior. They're a mixed bag, which makes them hard to control. Yet Katsuki's tireless efforts over the past year have served to improve relations between the department and the rest of the city; the people still don't welcome them open arms, but at least they're not longer seen as hostile invaders.

「 Tsurayuki 」
Leader: ???
Jobs: ???

'Tsurayuki' is a name one might hear attributed to any number of unsavory or mysterious circumstances. Petty crime, graffiti, anti-government propaganda, factionless prostitutes, strange men in dark clothing lurking by the docks... in other words, they're more rumor than substance, and what little substance exists is still questionable. Who they are, if they even exist, and even whether they're actually a 'they' remains unknown. Still, it's a handy name to make use of it you want to anonymously wreak havoc.

「 Miscellaneous 」
In addition to the 'unique' positions listed above there are several types of job, both skilled and unskilled, needed by every faction. Examples of such include janitors, cashiers, housekeepers, waiters, bartenders, bouncers, prep cooks, gofers, and first aid specialists. Characters who are wholly unsuited to a specialized job within their faction will usually be assigned to one of these more normal jobs.
